The Apple iPhone 4S has proven to be the most successful product launch to date for the California based tech giant. In this article I will take a look at how some of the great applications found as standard on the iPhone 4S.
iTunes
In case you are unfamiliar with iTunes, it is Apple’s digital media store where users can browse millions of songs, videos, movies and podcasts which can be downloaded for a fee or in some cases for free, like podcasts. The downloaded content is then stored on the phone, and can be viewed in the iPod applications. iTunes displays the most downloaded products, and even makes personalised recommendations based on previous downloads. It allows you to find the products you want by searching based on artist, genre, title and keywords etc.
Safari
Safari is Apple’s default web browsing software found on its computers like iMacs and MacBook Pros. A smartphone optimised version of the software has been made into an app, which is installed as standard on all iPhone versions. It offers a similar user experience to the computer software. It has many of the same features such as multi tab browsing, and the ability to set your own homepage and favourites. Thanks to voice recognition software found on the iPhone 4S, you can even tell the phone which website you want to visit, and it will open it in the browser without the need to type the URL.
Maps
Based on the innovative Google Maps, the Maps application is also included as standard on the iPhone 4S. It allows users to search for locations around the globe, from countries down to specific addresses. You can view the map in a standard graphic function, or in satellite images. You can even zoon into a specific area and switch to street view where you can navigate the map at street level. Another handy function of Google Maps calls upon the GPS capabilities of the iPhone 4S and allows users to input a destination, and the phone will then provide you with turn by turn directions.
Of course, this article only highlights the tip of the iceberg, as the iPhone 4S comes equipped with numerous standard applications, and of course the AppStore allows users to browse over half a million apps and counting. This makes the iPhone 4S arguably the most versatile smartphone available, and allows users to customise the functionality of the device to suit their individual needs.
The iPhone 4S is now available on major UK networks, with several currently offering the handset for free on selected tariffs.
