India’s festive sale season is the best week of the year to buy an iPhone, and this year three generations are discounted at once. Amazon’s Great Indian Festival starts October 8, Flipkart’s Big Billion Days starts October 9, and Reliance Digital’s Festival of Electronics starts October 9, and each has put a different iPhone in the spotlight.

The headline numbers below are effective prices, which stack the sale price with bank cashback and exchange bonuses. Here is how the three stack up.

The Headline Deals, Side by Side

ModelRetailerListed priceBank offerExchange bonusEffective price
iPhone 17 (256GB)Reliance DigitalRs 79,899Rs 3,000 cashbackRs 8,000$785 (Rs 68,899)

iPhone 15 (128GB)Reliance DigitalRs 59,899Rs 1,500 cashbackRs 3,000$630 (Rs 55,399)
iPhone 16 (128GB)AmazonRs 71,99910% SBI instant discounttrade-in extra~$730-750 (Rs 64,000-66,000)
iPhone 17 (256GB)FlipkartRs 84,999Rs 2,000 ICICI/AxisRs 3,000~$911 (Rs 79,999)

Two things jump out. First, Reliance Digital’s in-store Festival of Electronics prices beat both Amazon and Flipkart on every model this year. Second, the gap between the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 17 is just Rs 3,500 at Reliance, and the 17 comes with double the storage.

What the Extra Money Actually Buys

The iPhone 17’s upgrades are the ones you feel every day: the 120Hz ProMotion display, the brighter screen, and the battery jump from 22 to 30 hours of video playback. The iPhone 16 is now the awkward middle child, close enough in price to the 17 that it is hard to recommend unless you find it cheaper online. And note the iPhone 15’s A16 chip means no Apple Intelligence, which matters if you plan to keep the phone for four or five years.

The Math Favors the iPhone 17

At $785 (Rs 68,899) effective, the iPhone 17 256GB is the standout deal of the season. You pay Rs 3,500 more than the iPhone 16 and get a newer chip, a much better display, better cameras, longer battery life, Apple Intelligence, and twice the storage. That is the easiest recommendation in this guide.

The iPhone 15 at $630 (Rs 55,399) is the budget pick. It still gets years of iOS updates, and at this price it undercuts most Android flagships while offering longer software support than nearly all of them. If your budget is firm, it is a fine buy, just go in knowing the 60Hz display and the missing AI features.

The iPhone 16 at $745 (Rs 65,399) only makes sense if you cannot reach a Reliance Digital store and Amazon’s SBI card discount gets you close to the same number. Otherwise, stretch to the 17.

Read the Fine Print Before You Tap Buy

Every effective price above assumes two things: an eligible bank card and an exchange bonus. The exchange bonus, up to Rs 8,000 on the iPhone 17, depends on the age and condition of the phone you trade in. Without a trade-in, the iPhone 17 costs you Rs 76,899 at Reliance, which is still cheaper than Flipkart’s Rs 79,999 but a different calculation. No-cost EMI is available on all three platforms if you would rather spread the cost.

Timing matters too. Reliance Digital’s offers are in-store only and start October 9 at 9 a.m. Amazon’s sale starts October 8, with Prime members getting early access a day earlier. Flipkart’s Big Billion Days starts October 9, with Plus and Black members getting in on October 8. If you want the Reliance prices, plan a store visit, because the online sales will not match them.

And if you are wondering whether to skip all three and wait for the newest generation, our iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone 17 Pro comparison breaks down what the latest models actually changed. Deal hunters comparing Android alternatives should also see the Nothing Phone 3 at Rs 51,999 in the same Amazon sale.
