iPhone Air 2 Leaks: Bigger Battery, Dual 48MP Cameras, and an Even Thinner Body

Apple’s thinnest iPhone may be about to fix its two biggest complaints. A fresh round of leaks on October 29 says the iPhone Air 2 will add a second rear camera and a bigger battery, while getting even thinner, and that the phone has now entered engineering validation testing, the stage where Apple locks down prototype hardware ahead of mass production.

None of this is confirmed by Apple, and specifications can still change during development. But the details are now coming from two independent leakers on the same day, and they line up with earlier reports, which makes this leak round worth taking seriously.

Two 48MP cameras instead of one

The original iPhone Air, launched in September 2025 as the thinnest iPhone Apple had ever made, shipped with a single rear camera. Reviewers and buyers liked the design and disliked the compromise. According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, reported by Gizmochina and Notebookcheck on October 29, the Air 2 adds a 48MP ultra wide camera alongside the existing 48MP main sensor.

That matters more than a spec sheet suggests. A second lens brings ultra wide landscapes, group shots and macro-style close-ups that a single camera simply cannot fake well, and it puts the Air 2’s camera count on par with the standard iPhone. For a phone pitched as a premium device, the single lens was always the hardest compromise to defend.

A bigger battery in a thinner body

The second fix is battery life, the other common complaint about the first Air. Digital Chat Station puts the Air 2’s battery at around 3,500mAh, up from 3,149mAh in the original, an increase of roughly 11 percent. Leaker Sunny, posting on X the same day, separately claims Apple is testing a larger battery while reducing thickness.

The thickness numbers do not fully agree yet, and that disagreement is worth noting. Sunny puts the Air 2 at around 5.3mm, while an earlier report from Korean tipster yeux1122 pointed to about 5.2mm. Either way, both are thinner than the current model’s 5.6mm, which means Apple is reportedly fitting a bigger battery and an extra camera into a slimmer chassis, likely with higher-energy-density cells and the efficiency gains of a new chip.

A20 Pro power, same size screen

Inside, the leaks agree: the Air 2 moves to Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, the same chip family expected in the iPhone 18 Pro models. A 2nm chip should bring both speed and efficiency gains, and efficiency is what a thin phone with a modest battery needs most. The display is tipped to stay at 6.55 inches, a flat 1.5K+ LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, broadly matching the current model.

Spring 2027, alongside the iPhone 18 and 18e

The Air 2 is widely expected to launch in spring 2027, alongside the standard iPhone 18 and the more affordable iPhone 18e, as part of Apple’s split iPhone release schedule. Our earlier report on the spring 2027 iPhone 18e covers what the cheaper model is expected to bring, and the Air 2 would sit well above it in price and positioning.

Pricing has not surfaced yet. With a bigger battery and an extra camera on the list, expect a higher price than the current Air, though Apple could also hold the line to keep the thin phone competitive against Samsung’s foldables and its own Pro models.

What this means if you own the first Air

If you bought the first iPhone Air, the Air 2 leaks read like a list of everything you wished for, which is both good news and a reason to wait. The camera and battery fixes address the two real compromises, and the A20 Pro should help battery life beyond the raw capacity gain. But these are still leaks from the EVT stage, months before launch, and Apple has changed course at this stage before.

The practical advice is simple. If you are happy with your current Air, there is no reason to rush: the Air 2 is not expected until spring 2027, and your phone will keep getting software support, including iOS 27.2’s new features. If you skipped the first Air because of the single camera or the battery, the Air 2 is now the model to watch, and the next few months of leaks will tell us whether the 5.2mm or 5.3mm figure, and the 3,500mAh battery, survive into production.
