A radiant energy generator is a device that is capable of taking radiant energy (that exists all around us) and converting it into usable ac (alternating current) electricity that can be used to power appliances in your home. A typical device can generate around 7 kilowatts or so which is more than enough for most needs. In this article, I will tell you how such a device works and can be made.

The Basic Radiant Energy Generator Layout

Although these devices come in several different forms, they all share the same starting principles. They use magnets (usually made of neodymium) in order to harness this energy and convert it into mechanical energy.

The typical generator consists of a rotor (can be made of aluminium, brass or most metals) that is surrounded by a specific configuration of these magnets that maximizes the magnetic flux at any given position of the rotor.

Electrical wiring (usually copper) is used to convert the mechanical motion into electrical energy. This conversion process is nothing new to most people and is known as electromagnetic induction. It occurs when any conductor (such as copper) is passed through a magnetic field.

How To Run The Generator

These generators obviously do not suddenly start spinning as soon as you have finished constructing one or placing it in position. They need an initial kick-start of energy which can be supplied by pushing it (some use a hand crank) or via a battery.

This allows the motor to rapidly accelerate towards a final velocity of several thousand rpm whereupon the forces provided due to magnetism exactly counteract those from friction at the bearings and from the air. Thus, the rotor will spin indefinitely except for scheduled downtime in order to service the bearings and periodically replace magnets that have lost their magnetism over time.

How To Get A Generator

Commercial models are still some time away and I estimate approximately 5 years before we see the first ones. Some are less optimistic and believe that governments will never allow mass production of these generators because this will destroy all current investments in our fossil fuel reliant status quo.

Whatever you think will happen, if you want to take advantage of this technology today then you should construct your own device. Thankfully, this is even easier than constructing your own solar panel or wind turbine, with one proviso – I strongly recommend investing a nominal amount (around 40 to 50 dollars) on a reliable, step by step, instructional guide. This will contain details of a design that has been tried and tested and get you up and running within days rather than months or even years (these generators can be tricky to get "just right" if you are starting from scratch).

By following this path, you can cancel your power bill much sooner thanks to the 7 or so kilowatts worth of power that you will be able to generate with ease.
