When taking your driving lessons you must consider been friendly to the environment, why not help out with the environment and start to make sure you are eco driving! Your instructor should mention this to you whilst you are on your driving lessons.

Not only are you saving the environment you are also saving money from leaving your pocket! Driving schools will normally explain the fact that having a car that does more miles to the gallon is better. It allows you to travel more and pay less. Fuel efficient cars are becoming more and more affordable, in addition they cost next to nothing to tax.

However there are also a number of things you can do to make your car use less fuel and save you a bit of cash. Tricks of the trade!

Firstly anything that is attached to your roof, for example roof bars, roof box, head boards or anything that interrupts with your cars aerodynamics, this reduces fuel efficiency and will create drag. Driving with your windows and sunroof down also reduces fuel efficiency of your car, a lot of people are unaware of this. This means on that hot summers day, maybe turn the air con on instead of opening the windows this year. Although the air conditioning will use more fuel as well around 10 per cent yet it will still be better for fuel efficiency than having the windows down creating lots of drag.

Another good tip would be to cut out the engine when stood in traffic for a minute or more, although this may seem pointless to you at the time, this will save you money in the long run. However don’t go turning off the engine every time you stop at traffic lights because you are bound to cause some aggravation. Only cut off the engine if a stop is going to become a wait.

Finally when driving you should change into the highest possible gear as soon as you can, applying revs to the engine in low gears causes more fuel consumption that is needed although it helps you to get off the spot quicker. If there is no need to hurry up use gentle acceleration.

I hope this has helped you reduce your fuel bill. Also when you take your driving lessons this will make your driving instructors happy bunny’s.Hopefully when you have passed your driving test on driving your first car it will have kept a bit of cash in your back pocket for those times where you just feel like splashing out!
