Despite the fact that deaths related to automobile accidents have gone down recently, there is still a major problem with distracted driving. With the way people are on their cell phones, iPods, iPads and other technological devices now days it does not seem to be getting any better for the time being. There are warnings being issued on a regular basis from law enforcement and many other agencies regarding the dangers of distracted driving, but the problem seems to be still as big as ever. Hopefully with more education and getting the general public to think about the risks involved, people will do better to make sure they are not doing other things while driving, but instead keep their minds and eyes on the road and their driving.
For the time being, there are more and more people who are working with cell phones to look at their day planner, emails, or making calls and texting and so forth while driving. They are even talking on the cell phones with them on their ears very often while driving. The studies seem to show that when a driver has their cell phone ring, they continue to drive and answer the phone, hold it, and continue to drive while talking on the phone. When you ask people in surveys and at other times what they feel about texting while driving, most everyone says they know it is unsafe. However, they continue to text while driving in many cases. There seems to be only a small percentage of people who actually pull over and stop to talk on the phone or text.
Many states are starting to make it unlawful to talk on the phone while driving. There are even more of the states that have made a law against texting while driving. There are more and more safety studies being conducted to show the danger of distracted driving. As the results continue to play out, hopefully more and more people will be aware and responsible enough to not engage in distracted driving since it causes so many accidents. Some of these accidents are minor and do little damage, but others are major and do a lot of damage and even cause deaths. As you can see, this is a serious issue that needs to be considered by every person who drives on the road.
There are thousands of deaths relating to and caused by auto accidents that are blamed on and a result of distracted driving. It is mostly a matter of people just taking full responsibility and not driving while doing other things.
You may not realize that you can be distracted while you are driving even just from something as simple as having a passenger talking to you and conversing with you while you are driving. It is important to keep your hands on the wheel and your mind on the driving and your eyes on the road at all times. Teenage and younger drivers are more susceptible to distracted driving than adults. This can be especially true if they have their friends in the car with them and they are goofing off or something like this.
