The Xbox 360 has a circular ring structure called as the power ring which has four led lights that are capable of glowing in red and green in color. The power glows in green color when the console runs and it continues to run without any problem. If there is some problem in the console, the lights will turn into red color indicating the problem to the user. But, the number of lights glowing will depend upon the type of the error. Thus the various errors that are found in the Xbox 360 console are the single red light error, two red lights error, three red lights error and the four red lights error.

The console when introduced into the market was considered as one of the best consoles ever made. But, later it started to give troubles to the users as it was often showing three red lights in the power ring without any reason. And even in some console it occurs as soon as the console is switched on. The users were very puzzled about what is going around the console. For example when there is no CD in the drive, the console will exhibit a two red light error in the power ring and also will display an error message as No Disk on the screen. But, the three red light error is somewhat different from the rest as the users were not able to find where the problem has occurred and they cannot understand the error message E74 which appears sometimes on the screen.
FACT
The fact is that the console was not properly designed and the hardware gets damaged due to the excess heat developed inside the console. The heat sinks that are responsible for cooling the heat does not perform its function very effectively as the amount of heat is enormous and they were unable to manage them. Also the other problem is that the inbuilt intercooler fan that are supposed to cool the processors is also a cause for the three red light error as the current draw by them is so large that they actually damage the electronic components of the motherboard. Architecturally the console is designed with the intention of compactness and stylish look but that itself paved the way for its failure as the console is very congested and the external air was unable to flow inside.
Thus the only way to solve this is to cool the console device so that it doesn’t get over heated often. The economical way of doing this is to remove the X clamps which are used for support of the heat sinks. When they are removed there is possibility of external air flowing in the downward direction. The repairing can also be done simply by us. This is not a very complicated work and you can complete the repair process in just an hour with the help of normal household tools like screwdrivers.
