Making your car a treasured memory
It is relatively easy to take your car out to the repair shop and be done with. However you will not have any emotional attachment to that repair work because someone else has done it. Frankly speaking you could not care less what happens to the repairs as long as they do not cost you above market price. This is so different from when you do your own repairs because then it becomes a validation of your work and you will do everything within your power to protect that repair that you have done. It is more likely that such repairs will last a long time because you will not want to damage anything that you have spend a significant amount of time building up.
That is why I recommend that if you have the skills and abilities, and then you should not shy away from doing some DIY car scratch repairs. One of the advantages that you will get is that you can do the job to your exact tastes because you do not have to go through a third party to explain exactly what you want. This is the beauty of DIY because it allows you to express your own individuality in the repair work that you wish to accomplish. This is not to say that DIY car scratch repair is a walk in the park. On the contrary it is quite a technical job that will challenge many of the skills that you thought you have. However the reward of looking at your newly finished vehicle will more than compensate for any labor that you might have expended on the project.
Steps towards going for it on your own
This then brings me to the very first thing that you should have as you attempt to go down the DIY route to repairing your car. You need to find the knowledge that you need. Most car dealers will have guides that talk about a car and what needs to be done when you have a scratch. Unfortunately many of these guides are geared towards making you buy more and more services from the car manufacturer. That means that they will have an underlying mission to ensure that you spend as much money as possible on the car scratch repairs. This is not the result that you would ideally want. Moreover the dealer themselves will not want to give you the knowledge that could well drive them out of the business.
