The function of a fuel-injector is to mix the fuel in the car’s engine with air thus allowing the engine to run in a more smoothly manner at high and low temperatures. However the fuel-injector and the fuel pump can both get blocked causing malfunction. Luckily there are some easy techniques that can be used for fixing a fuel-injector before a new fuel-injector can be purchased.
Follow the easy and simple directions:
Tools Needed
– Static output pressure gauge Hammer Metal rod extension
Directions
Step 1:
First of all, determine whether the problem is caused by the fuel pump or fuel-injector. In case the fuel pump is not running completely or is running slow, then the power supply has to be checked. The emitted from the pump has to be measured by attaching a static output pressure gauge to the fuel rail. The pressure reading has to be checked for knowing if the static output pressure gauge is emitting the pressure that is recommended by the fuel pump manual.
Step 2:
The fuel-injector filter should be checked because these filters frequently get blocked. The blocked filters can be replaced at a very low cost rather than replacing the whole injector. Blocked fuel-injectors and fuel-injector filters are the very frequent problems that cause the fuel-injector to work improperly.
Step 3:
The tip of a thin metal rod has to be placed on the malfunctioning fuel-injector.
Step 4:
Use a hammer for gently tapping the other end of the metal rod. Make to tap on the fuel injector while the engine is start and running. Tap slightly harder if the injector still not working.
Step 5:
You would have to consider having a replacement in case the fuel injector fails to work because it is possibly shot.
Additional Information
If a fuel injector has totally failed electrically or a problem is present in the control system, then no amount of cleaners will be able to solve the problem. Some basic checks would be required to confirm if the injector is operating properly. Clean fuel injectors are a must for peak engine performance. Dirty fuel injectors cannot deliver the correct spray pattern that is essential for clean, efficient combustion. Dirty fuel injectors causes blocking which leads to a large variety of engine problems. These problems include a decrease in fuel economy, dirty emissions and worse performance. The injectors need to be cleaned or if the problem goes beyond cleaning, then repairing is needed.
Tips & Precautions
– The fuel injector must not be tapped so hard that it gets punctured.
– It is important to take safety precautions because the fuel injectors are potential eye and fire hazards. Safety gobbles must be worn and a fire extinguisher must be present nearby.
– Fuel lines are pressurized; caution must be taken while disconnecting them.
