I have been asked this question many, many times by those thinking about starting a windshield repair business: Why should I start a windshield repair business instead of some other type of business?
From someone who has tried many other businesses, I can tell you from experience that their is a big difference. Here are a few based on my own experiences:
1) RETAIL BUSINESS: My wife and I invested around $50,000 to open a nutrition store. We were excited to say the least. But after some time, the hours we were having to put in to get a new retail business off of the ground were taking a toll.
Many people believe that they can open a store, hire people to run it and they’ll be successful. This is far from the truth. The reality is this: If you open a retail store, be prepared to put in 60-70 hours per week (this includes the paperwork and record keeping). Be prepared to put your family life on hold (while your kids continue to grow up). Be prepared for the financial risk if the business doesn’t survive.
2) NETWORK MARKETING: Ahhh! Most everyone has fallen for the hype of building a residual income where you could make $5,000, $20,000, even $100,000 per month if you just talk to enough people.
There are a few good companies out there, but they do take time to build. It doesn’t happen overnight.
3) LABOR INTENSIVE: My most eye-opening experience and one I WILL NEVER FORGET, was “DECORATIVE CONCRETE.” Let me just say that I’m shocked that my wife didn’t divorce me over this.
A Decorative Concrete business involves mixing and spreading a mortar mix over existing concrete and stamping it with a rubberized pattern stamp. We have never worked this hard in our lives. Needless to say, we shut this business down very quickly (before she divorced me).
I don’t mind working hard, but this gave new meaning to the saying.
Now, some of the benefits of starting a windshield repair business:
1) Easy to do. Not strenuous.
2) Very high profit margins.
3) FREEDOM! You work when you want to. The possibility of making a full-time income working part-time hours.
4) No more boss to answer to!
5) Low start-up costs. (very possible to recoup your entire investment in as little as a few weeks).
If you are serious about starting a business of your own, I suggest you take a serious look at windshield repair.
