Of course you absolutely need car insurance and for a variety of reasons. First of all, in the UK it is a requirement to carry car insurance and has been for many, many years. Therefore, if you do not have car insurance, you will be breaking the law and be subjected to large fines and perhaps other penalties. In other words, if you want to remain a law-abiding citizen, car insurance is an absolute must.
Aside from it being the law, having car insurance just makes sense in every aspect. Consider this, if you are driving down the street, minding your own business (preferably driving in a safe and respectable manner) all of the sudden, out of nowhere a car comes out of a side street and hits you. Now, if this other person has no insurance and you have no insurance, now what? This means you have to pay for the repairs, injuries, and other such things out of your own pocket, could you afford that? An accident can cost you upwards to £ 5,000. Is that something your bank account can manage?
In another instance, say that you are driving down the street, become distracted and hit another person, causing injury and damage, or maybe worse. Without insurance, this is something you would have to take care of yourself. It just makes sense to have insurance, even if it is the lowest possible form of insurance such as third party only, which covers any injury and damage that may occur to the other person.
Car insurance may be an extra expense that makes it hard to manage, but if you really think about it, working to manage that expense can literally save you a ton of money. It makes sense when you consider the fines for not having insurance, the possibility of damage to your own car or another's, and the possibility of injury or death, not only to yourself, but others as well.
