Shopping for a new automobile is no one's concern but your own, right? The auto insurance industry begs to differ with another take on the matter.

To those companies that make it their business to tailor each and every policy according to owner usage and model, make and year as well as all the features that go along, guiding the new buyer to an appropriate selection is a matter of passion. The logic behind the fervor boils down to dollars and cents. After all, if consumers purchase the right kind of car, van, truck – the type with built-in protective safety qualities – it stands to reason that accidents will not be as prevalent and the insurance claims that come along with them will also be minimized .

So, what do those that worry about general liability, other losses and damages, and lawsuits, tell the new buyer? Keep safety measures and the modern technology that assists in safe driving at the forefront of your must-have list, they say.

Included among the priorities for consideration are the following:

• Forward Collision Indicator
The front sensors are built to forewarn a driver of an imminent collision so that he or she has the time to brake or steer away from the crash.

• Auto Emergency Brake
The safety measure works in conjunction with the collision indicator by robotically braking so as to evade an accident.

• Lane-Exiting Warning
The warning is activated via built-in cameras that follow your vehicle's position on the roadway. Once it detects an accidental shift off of the lane, it warns you to stay on track.

• Lane-Retaining Backing
The feature automatically directs your car back into the lines of the lane after it detects wandering.

• Backup Camera
Constructed to automatically activate after you shift into reverse, this feature helps you see at the back of your car.

• Automated Stability Control
The feature assists you in being in control under slippery conditions as well as while driving on curvy roads.

• Blind-Spot Recognition
The feature lights up when another car is in one or both blind spots.

• Adjusting Headlights
The headlights move while the car drives on a curve to assist in motorist visibility.

• Pedestrian Automated Emergency Braking
This warns the driver in the event a pedestrian is in the way as it automatically brakes.

• Collision Warning
This feature alerts local EMS if a crash occurs.

For more on what to look for in car safety, speak to a qualified car dealer or an independent insurance agency.
