Design:The Apple MacBook Pro MB985LL/A delivers with a new lighter and thinner uni-body chassis. However, like all MacBook Pro laptops the overall design hasn’t changed which is good if you like Apple’s silver and glossy white design. At 5.5 pounds the laptop is lighter while maintaining the same solidly built chassis. The new 15-inch LED back-lit glass-covered display is vibrant and sharp while increasing energy efficiency. Again, like most MacBook Pro laptops the keyboard is extremely comfortable to use while the etched glass multi-gesture track pad is much larger than normal due to the button-less design.
Specifications: While the MB985LL/A doesn’t surprise with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, it does offer a dual graphics solution. Consisting of an integrated Nvidia 9400M and a discrete Nvidia 9600M GT, users can switch between the two on the fly, depending on their needs. While the Apple MacBook Pro MB985LL/A maintains Apple’s current practice of internal non-removable batteries, they have come out with their own lithium-polymer batteries. These new batteries offer up to 7 hours worth of operation while maintaining a thinner, slimmer and easier to cool build. The laptop offers 320GB worth of hard disk drive storage, 4GB of RAM and a DVD burner SuperDrive. Connections include two USB ports, one Gigabit Ethernet port, one Firewire 800 port, one mini-DisplayPort and an SD card reader.
Features & Performance: In terms of tasks, the 15.4-inch MB985LL/A allows users the full gamut of applications including Internet browsing, office work, multimedia and gaming. While the integrated Nvidia 9400M graphics offers longer battery life, the discrete Nvidia 9600M GT is powerful enough to run the latest 3D games like Call of Duty as well as image, photo and video processing programs.
Since both can be switched to easily, the Apple MacBook Pro MB985LL/A offers users the ability to change graphics engines when they need it. The custom components like the lithium-polymer batteries also make the Apple MacBook Pro MB985LL/A one of the coolest laptops in its class. An affordable price tag makes the laptop perfect for the performance user on a budget while the top-notch features guarantee excellent performance. At the moment, this laptop model is retailing at just around $1815 each.
