Well guys and gals, sorry I have been off line for a bit. My Toshiba Satellite laptop broke down, after 6 good long years of use, and the last couple of days I had to go seek out a new computer. So this is what I settled on.

The MacBook by Apple computers is a fantastic laptop and that is what I went with. It is a perfect size for travel or home use. And since I bought the black one, it is pretty sharp and will not show dirt as much as the white ones. Although you do pay a little more for the black ones. It is also an all metal body, and very solid and lightweight.

As for the operating system, it is not windows, obviously. To me, that is pretty nice, because I finally reached my breaking point with Windows. The OS system runs clean, and does not get the same virus and spyware issues that Windows gets. It is also pretty easy to navigate. And being a long time Windows guy, that says a lot.

For the details on this computer that make it stand out from the rest. It has this cool new magnetic power chord hook up system. The idea of this thing, is lets say you are typing away on your new Mac and someone walks by and trips on your power chord. Most times, your laptop would be flying. But with the new MagSafe connector, what will happen is that the power chord will just pop out without taking your laptop with the chord. That, and when you go to connect the MagSafe connector, the magnet in the set up will connect itself as it gets closer to the port. Very cool.

The chip set is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 processor, which is great for what I use it for. This has a 2 GB of DDR2 SDRAM and can easily be upgraded to 4 GB if you need it. The screen is a 13.3-inch. TFT glossy widescreen display and plenty bright and big enough for me. I did think that I would miss my bigger screen on my Toshiba, but with a bigger screen came a bigger laptop and more weight. And speaking of weight, this laptop weighs in at 5 pounds and the dimensions are 12.7 X 8.9X1.0 inches, and will fit in most back packs quite nicely.

As for other stuff, it has a super drive, so you can burn CDs or play DVDs. There is no tray with this, just a slot port, kind of like car CD players. It has wireless capability and bluetooth. On the the top of the screen is a small webcam called iSight. The picture is very clear and there is a built in microphone as well. This unit works great with Skype. With my old computer, I used a hard drive Enclosure kit called a Rocketfish, and I put my old harddrive in it. The directions were very easy, and everything worked when I did the transfer of stuff. The Rocketfish set up cost about 50 dollars.

Now for the down side. There are only two USB ports on this sucker. There is Bluetooth, so hopefully you can get all your stuff to Bluetooth. But you might have to get some kind of multi port USB extension, if you want to run more that two USB type devices at one time. The other downside is the cost for tech support. You get 90 days free, as soon as you purchase. But if you want a service plan, it costs over 350 dollars for a couple years. Ouch. But well worth it, if you have not a clue on how to fix stuff on these things. My personal strategy, is that I will use the internet to fix stuff, and if it gets too bad, I will take it in somewhere. So I did not get the service plan.

The price for this computer runs in the 1400 dollar plus price range. You will not find too many price fluctuations, because I guess Apple price controls these things. From what I have heard, it is best to buy these computers from an Apple Store if you can get to one. Then you can use that store as a source for tech support for free. That is what I have heard, and really could not confirm that.

So far though, I love this laptop. It does what I need it to do, and looks good doing it. I plan on using this computer for along time as well, so that is why I paid the big money for this thing. The biggest benefit though, is not having to worry about dealing with viruses and spyware. Oh, and one more thing. This laptop has an extremely long battery life. We are talking about four and half hours, and that is pretty flippen cool.
