Honor’s New Gaming Phones Pack 12,000mAh Batteries and Fans. There Is a Catch on Price

Honor launched the WIN2 gaming phone series in Hangzhou on October 21, and the headline specs read like a parody of phone progress: batteries north of 10,000mAh, an actual spinning cooling fan inside the phone, and displays refreshing at up to 240Hz. But the real story is not the hardware. It is the price tags, which jumped 1,500 to 2,300 yuan over the previous generation. The reason, according to industry reporting, is that smartphone memory prices rose more than 80 percent quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2026, and someone has to pay for it.

What launched: three phones, one tablet, all China-only

The lineup is dense, and that is the point. Gaming is one of the few segments still pushing upgrades in a Chinese smartphone market where shipments fell 15.4 percent year-on-year in the third quarter and the replacement cycle has stretched to 42 months.

The WIN2 is the flagship: the newest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 silicon, an active cooling fan for sustained gaming performance, and a display that can refresh up to 240 times per second. The WIN2 RT trades the top chip for the Gen 5, keeps the fan, and somehow squeezes in an even bigger 12,070mAh battery alongside a 200-megapixel camera sensor. The WIN Turbo is the budget play: Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, a 50-megapixel main camera, no fan, but the same 12,070mAh battery. A 12,000mAh battery in a phone was unthinkable three years ago; now it is the value-tier standard.

Why everything costs more: the memory bill

The uncomfortable part is the pricing. Comparable configurations of the WIN2 series cost 1,500 to 2,300 yuan more at first sale than their predecessors, and Honor is not alone: the OnePlus 16 and the iQOO16 also posted increases above 1,000 yuan. The driver is memory. With data centers and AI hardware absorbing global DRAM and NAND supply, smartphone memory prices reportedly surged more than 80 percent quarter-on-quarter in Q2 2026. Phone makers absorbed what they could, and then they passed the rest to you.

This is the same force that pushed the Pixel 10a from $499 to $599 without a single spec changing. Memory is now the binding constraint on phone pricing, not the chip or the camera. Expect every 2027 flagship launch to carry a version of this paragraph.

The wave does not stop here

October has been a gaming phone pileup: the OnePlus 16 launched October 12, the RedMagic 12 Pro+ on October 15, the WIN2 on October 21, with the iQOO Neo12 and the REDMI K100 expected before month’s end. For buyers in India, the more relevant date is October 27, when the Infinix GT 50 Pro launches with a Dimensity 8400 Ultimate chip, a 144Hz AMOLED display, pressure-sensitive shoulder triggers, liquid cooling, and a 6,500mAh battery, bundled with a controller, a TV dock, and a magnetic cooler. India gets gaming hardware; China gets the absurd batteries.

What this means for you

If you are shopping for a phone this year, build the memory surcharge into your budget and your expectations. The WIN2 series shows where the money goes now: batteries and cooling are getting better while prices climb for reasons that have nothing to do with the phone’s capabilities. And note the fine print that matters most for readers outside China: Honor confirmed the WIN series is staying in China, with no global release. These phones are a preview of the 2027 flagship playbook, 12,000mAh batteries included, not a shopping list. For now, the OnePlus 16 and the upcoming iQOO Neo12 are the same story in phones you can actually buy.
