X’s New Subscription Puts Grok, Cursor, and Premium on One Bill: Every Tier From $8 to $200

The AI subscription maze just got a lot simpler, at least for one company’s customers. On October 12, SpaceX Super Intelligence, the company that folded xAI into Elon Musk’s empire earlier this year, announced The X Subscription: a single unified plan that bundles X Premium, the Grok chatbot, and the Cursor coding assistant into five tiers, starting at $8 a month.

Until now, these lived behind separate paywalls. You could pay for SuperGrok, X Premium, and Cursor Pro through three different portals, with three different usage meters and three different renewal dates. The new plan collapses them into one bill, one account, and, most interestingly, one shared pool of AI usage that Grok and Cursor both draw from.

The five tiers, and what each one unlocks

X confirmed the full pricing structure on October 13. Here it is, monthly, on the web:

TierPriceWhat you get
Free$0Limited Grok chat and agent requests, limited X functionality
Plus$8/mo ($80/yr)Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine, and Build, Grok API access, fewer ads, Premium checkmark
Premium$30/mo ($300/yr)4x the AI usage of Plus, Grok Bot, the newest Grok models, faster chat, code hosting, AI code reviews, cloud agents and automations, ad-free scrolling, preferred handle, reply boost
Super$100/mo ($1,000/yr)15x the usage of Plus, priority model access at peak times
Ultra$200/mo50x the usage of Plus

For Indian readers, that is roughly Rs 700, Rs 2,625, Rs 8,750, and Rs 17,500 a month at current exchange rates. The free tier is exactly what it sounds like: a taste, with limited chat and agent access. Anyone who wants the newest Grok models has to step up to Premium or above. The rollout is gradual, so check your billing settings rather than expecting it to appear everywhere on day one.

The shared usage pool: Grok and Cursor drink from the same well

The genuinely new idea here is the shared meter. Grok and Cursor pull from one weekly allowance pool, which means unused chatbot credits effectively become coding credits. If you spend Monday arguing with Grok about a design doc and Tuesday deep in a Cursor refactoring session, both draw from the same balance.

There are boundaries worth knowing. Third-party models inside Cursor are billed separately on eligible tiers, so the pool covers Grok-powered work, not everything. Cursor’s own support documentation confirms the shared Grok-and-Cursor usage model and says switching is optional: existing subscribers can keep their current plans. And if you are already paying for X Premium, SuperGrok, or Cursor, X says moving to the unified plan cancels your eligible monthly or annual plans and issues a prorated refund for unused time before the new billing kicks in.

The math: who actually saves money

This is where the bundle gets interesting, because the old prices are public. Today, X Premium costs $8 a month, X Premium+ (which includes SuperGrok access) costs $40, and Cursor Pro costs $20. Buy X Premium and Cursor Pro separately and you are at $28 a month. The new Plus tier is $8. For a light user who wants a bit of everything, that is a dramatic cut.

Higher up the ladder, the savings are real too. SuperGrok Heavy runs about $300 a month on its own; Ultra folds Heavy-class usage, X Premium+, and Cursor under one $200 bill. Premium at $30 undercuts the old Premium+ at $40 while adding Cursor’s cloud agents and code reviews. The one group that should pause: if Grok Bot is the only thing you want, Cursor Pro at $20 a month remains the cheapest route to it, since Plus is the first unified tier with Bot access only at Premium and above.

Compared with the broader market, the positioning is aggressive. OpenAI just halved its ChatGPT Pro plan to 10x usage from October 30, and the standard ChatGPT Plus sits at $20 a month for chat alone. An $8 tier that includes chat, voice, image generation, API access, and a coding assistant is priced to pull developers and creators away from single-purpose subscriptions. For the per-token economics behind these services, our October AI price list has the full comparison.

Why now: the subscription wars are about lock-in

Do not mistake this for generosity. Folding Grok, Cursor, and X Premium into one billing relationship is a retention play: every additional service on the same invoice raises the cost of leaving. OpenAI and Anthropic both run their own paid tiers and have been pulling subscribers from smaller players, and SpaceX Super Intelligence is betting that stacking verification perks, creator tools, ad reduction, and coding access gives it an edge no single-purpose subscription can match.

It is also a bet on where the value is moving. The standalone chatbot subscription is becoming table stakes; the fight is over the bundle that keeps a developer inside one ecosystem from morning standup to evening deploy. Meta is pushing its new Muse Wonder models into paid experiences, Google is expanding Gemini into Workspace and Antigravity, and now X has put its whole stack on one bill. The AI subscription wars have entered their bundle phase, and $8 is the opening bid.
