Downloading Videos With a Browser Extension

One way to download a video like is via a browser extension. There are quite a few extensions to choose from such as Video Download Helper. Most of the extensions are available in both a Chrome browser and a Firefox browser.

With the Video Download Helper extension, you are able to download HLS streamed videos, flash videos, and Dash videos. You can also convert the video that you download into a different format like MP3, AVI, MP4, or WMV.

Once you have the extension downloaded on your computer, you will open that video-sharing website and play the video you want to download. Click the button and choose the resolution that you prefer. Click “Quick download” then “Download & Convert” or “Download” from the drop-down list.

Download From the Website

Another way to download a video is directly from the website similar to how you save pictures from a site.

First, you will open the website that you want to download the video from. Right-click the video and click the “Save video as…” option. Choose the destination folder of where you want to save the video and click the “save” button.

Online Video Converters

You can also try to download an embedded video with an Online Video Converter. This is the most popular online video downloader that also supports different video streaming sites such as Godtube, Vimeo, VK, Facebook, and TED.

First, go to the website that has the video that you want to download and copy the URL. Then go to the Online Video Converter website and paste the URL of the embedded video. Choose the format that you prefer and click “Start” to convert the URL.

Lastly, click “Download” and the embedded video will be downloaded.

Without Extensions

You can also download embedded videos with Chrome Browser without downloading an extension. After you open your Chrome browser, enter the video site in order to find the target video. Click the F12 key and go to “Network” then click “Media.”

Next, press the F5 key to refresh the webpage, then click the “Play” button to start playing the video. Right click on the file and click “Open in new tab.” After you click this, the embedded video will automatically begin to download.

VLC Media Player

Whether you are downloading on a MAC or on a PC you have the option of using the VLC Media Player to download your embedded video of choice. If your computer does not come with this program you can download it for free online.

First, you will go to “Media” then click “Open Network Stream.” In the Network tab enter the URL of the video you want to download and then click “Play.” Navigate to “View” then “Playlist” and it will bring up your playlist.

In the playlist, right-click on the video that you want and click “save.” When the next screen pops up choose the format that you want to save your video and also choose where to save your video file. Click “Start” and in a few seconds or minutes, your video will be saved on your computer.

YouTube DL

If you are comfortable with old school command line programs then you might prefer this option to download your video of choice. Although typing the commands is not the easiest way, it is a very flexible and powerful way to download embedded videos.

It is also Free and Open Source (FOSS) which is a plus for techies that love working with FOSS software. This option is always getting regular updates and is constantly under development.

Once you install YouTube DL you can run the program from the command line or with the YouTube DL GUI interface. You can add URLs to your download list and once your videos download they are saved on your hard drive.

YouTube Video Downloader

This extension can be downloaded for Linux, Firefox, and Chrome. YouTube makes it hard to download videos directly from their website which is why this extension or the FastestTube extension has to be installed manually.

With this option, you can convert YouTube videos to MP3s as well. Move your cursor over the extension and then click the “Download” button that appears in the top right corner of the video player. Then choose the format you prefer.

Screen Recorder

A screen recorder is another alternative to saving an embedded video. If none of the methods above work then this is a good option. Using a screen recorder will allow you to record the video and then save it to your laptop or your computer.

Keep in mind that this option will give you the lowest quality than the other options and it is best for shorter than longer videos.
