Apple’s AirPods took hold of nearly fifty percent of the global wireless earbuds market. And those numbers show no signs of slowing down. It’s quite obvious that AirPods are a huge hit among music, podcast, and audiobook listeners.
But even if you’ve owned a pair of Apple AirPods for a while now, you still might not be getting the most out of them.
Interested in learning more? If so, then continue reading and we’ll walk you through the different features of the Apple AirPod and helpful tips and tricks.
How to Connect AirPods to Your iPhone
All versions of AirPods come with a special chip inside of them that makes it easy for them to connect to any iPad or iPhone. To start, open the lid of the AirPod case. Press and hold the small button that’s on the back of the case while keeping the case near your iPhone.
An AirPod icon should show up at the bottom of your phone screen. Unlock your phone and tap the connect button. For the first and second-generation models, that’s all you have to do.
If you have AirPod Pros, then there’s one more step you’re going to have to perform. This is known as the Ear Tip Fit Test.
Here, you take a few seconds to see if the AirPods are a good fit. If they aren’t you can select from the different silicone tips to make them fit better.

How to Check the Battery on Your AirPods
With an iPhone, it’s very easy to check the battery of the AirPods. First, you have to place your AirPods case next to your iPhone and then open the case.
The battery percentage of each of the AirPods as well as the AirPods will appear at the bottom of your phone’s display. You can also ask Siri how the AirPods battery is doing.
How to Charge AirPods and Case
In order to charge your AirPods, you just have to put them back in the AirPods case. So long as the case has battery life, the AirPods will charge when they’re in there.
If you have the AirPods Pro or the second-generation AirPods, then you can get three hours of listening time on fifteen minutes of charge.
To charge the case, plug the Lightning connector into the bottom of the case. This is how you would charge an iPhone.
Use One AirPod and Switch to Increase Talk Time
The first generation of AirPods that came out offered two hours of talk time on a single charge. The next generation offers three hours of talk time and five hours of listening time. With the AirPods Pro, you get five hours of listening time and nearly four hours of talk time.
To talk on the phone, you can wear one or both of your AirPods. If you want to save battery life, then you can just use one AirPod. Then, when you hear the five-minute warning sound that indicates a low battery, you can switch to your fully charged AirPod.
How to Change the Double-Tap Default for First and Second Generation AirPods
By default, you’ll launch Siri on your iPhone if you double-tap the side of a first-generation AirPod. If you double-tap a second-generation AirPod, it will start playing the next track.
If you want to change this default option, you can do a few things. You can turn it off completely or even have different things happen depending on whether you tap the left or right AirPod.
In order to do this, open the Bluetooth settings on your phone. While your AirPods are connected, tap on the “i” symbol on the AirPods tab. Then select the option that you want for the left and right AirPod.
How to Change Between Modes on AirPods Pro
The AirPods Pro comes with two modes. You can activate the Active Noise Cancellation mode or Transparency mode. This latter mode allows you to hear the outside environment while listening to music.
To change modes quickly, you need to press and hold the Force Touch sensor that can be found on the stem of your AirPods.
In order to access the Control Center, you can swipe down from the top right of your phone’s home screen. Depending on the kind of iPhone that you’re using, you can either 3D touch or Haptic Touch the volume bar when your AirPods are connected.
This will let you manually switch between the two different listening modes.
How to Change the Active AirPod Microphone
The active microphone automatically switches between the right and left AirPods by default. However, you can change it so that it only stays on one specific AirPod.
To do this, open up your phone’s Bluetooth settings. Click on the “i” symbol on the AirPods tab and select your preferred AirPod under the Microphone icon.
