If you feel wary about car upkeep service, then you're not alone. There are thousands of others who feel in the same way when going for auto repair services. According to studies and investigations, car repair fraud regularly holds the top most rank in the consumer complaints list. Even though most car upkeep agencies are genuine in their work, you'll come across many fraudulent companies as well. They rip off innocent customers by doing needless repairs, including automotive parts replacement. So, it's very important to do proper investigation and stay away from such fraudulent activities. Else, you may end up wasting your valuable time, money and energy.

With so many repair shops around, finding a good and reliable service provider is very tough. Once you come across such a genuine agency, just stick to them. A few months back, some tar stuck to my car wheels, resulting in discomfort and some tremor. As soon as I took it to a repair center, they scraped off the tar and did not charge anything for it. So, that's what a genuine repair agency is all about. Sometimes, people go for unusually low offers, and most of them are frauds or deceptions. However, that's never advisable. Always think of long-term profits instead of the short-term benefits. Here are a few common fraudulent tactics used by illegitimate auto repair shops.

Engine shampooing

Few years back, when I took my vehicle for routine servicing and the mechanic suggested a service where he would shampoo the engine. He addressed the external part of the engine and removed all the grease, dirt, oil and crime for a hefty amount of money. However, this service is entirely useless, and you can do this simple job for a nominal cost.

Fuel injector clean up

If you think that all the auto repair frauds revolve around the engine, then you're definitely mistaken. A lot of repair agencies suggest a fuel injector clean up session. However, this is another strategy followed by fraudulent auto repair shops to extract money out of innocent customers' pockets. The fuel injectors do not need a clean up job, at least not till they put on a few miles. So, if you own a new car and the mechanic suggests a fuel injector clean up, just run away.

Car transmission flush

If you own an automatic transmission car, the repair shop may suggest a flush service. While it's true that flush and replacement are necessary, they're not something compulsory. Your car needs this service only after 60,000 miles; however, if your car includes a filter, you may not need this service. Consult the owner's manual to know more about your car.
