Winter is a great period for shopping. All of us save money so we'll be able to buy presents at the end of the year, both for us and for our beloved and friends. Retailers know that also and they are trying to attract more and more buyers in their stores every year. And how can they do that? By offering more and more discounts, coupons, price cuts and special prices for different products, so we will not buy from the neighbors, but from them.

The official start of the winter shopping season is at the end of November, in the day after Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday. This year, Black Friday is on November 27th. It will be followed closely by Cyber Monday, on November 30th.

Ever since the 70s, Black Friday is a day of huge discounts. Most of the time, on Black Friday you'll get better prices on many products than you'll ever find in the rest of the year. In the last years, many of the big shops have offered incredible bargains and discounts, but this was translated in huge lines and chaos atmosphere inside, once the store doors get opened: people running towards what they need, kicking and hurting others on their way .

People tend to get up at 1 or 2 in the night to get in lines, while other prefer to camp outside the store from the previous day so they'll be able to get some of the best deals. That's not really my idea of spending Thanksgiving evening though … Shops and stores open early in the morning, at 5 or 6 and do not close until late in the evening, between 22 and 24. During all this time, most of their stocks get depleted, thus making Black Friday the most profitable day in the whole year.

In order to attract buyers, store used all kind of tricks: firs they announce their ads and discounted products, then they use early birds (products with incredible low prices that are only available in a limited number or in the early hours of the morning) to make shoppers get inside their stores, discounts and coupons available in stores randomly, etc.

However, the craziness around this day has grown too big in the last years. People got hurt by the lust of others, some even died. It's unimaginable what some can do to save some extra bucks. This year I'm expecting things to get even worse; with the whole economic crisis and all, more will try to catch the rebates.

That's why I for one rather look for products online. It's true, I might now find the bargains as good as those available in offline stores, but at least I can shop comfortable from my couch and still save some money. There are some helpful sites like this one that offers the best Black Friday online deals gathered all in one place, along with other that offer coupons, limited time deals, etc. Also, all the big online stores are starting to offer a section of Black Friday offers. And I for one think this tendency of migrating the good deals towards online will continue more and more in the next years. And it's not something I complain about, not at all!
