One of the most vulnerable motor vehicles for theft are motorcycles. While cars and trucks are often stolen too, it’s a lot easier to hop on a bike and ride away. It doesn’t take a lot of effort for thieves to steal bikes, which is why they’re usually targets.

However, there are motorcycle theft prevention tools that you can use to ensure that you don’t become the victim of bike theft.

If you’re unsure of which motorcycle security methods are the most effective, continue reading the content below.

Put Your Bike in a Hidden Place

Try leaving your bike behind a big truck—like an SUV—if you’re in a garage or a parking structure. This may not seem like a smart motorcycle theft prevention tip because it provides a prospective criminal with plenty of security for attempting to rob your motorcycle.

However, it actually does more good than you might think. Since the bike is out of reach, there’s a huge chance that if a thief is planning to steal a motorcycle, they won’t see yours tucked behind the large vehicle.

Obviously, the driver of the SUV can drive away and leave your bike exposed. But this trick is great for quick stops where you won’t be parked for too long.

Secure the Forks

A fork lock is another motorcycle theft protection system that is fairly affordable to purchase but makes a significant difference in protection. A thief wouldn’t be able to roll your bike away if you lock the forks of your wheels. This is especially true if you twist your wheel inward before putting the fork lock on.

Furthermore, even if bike robbers are able to start the engine, they won’t be unable to push it away until the fork lock is removed. This is an additional layer of security that’s very useful.

Park Near Other Motorcycles

Another motorcycle security tip is to park near other bikes. If you’re riding with a group of bikers, this works particularly well. However, even if you’re traveling alone, try to find a few bikes to park next to.

This is a smart idea for a couple of reasons: your bike would be less of a priority if it is surrounded by other motorcycles, and more bikes around mean more people coming and leaving.

Generally, motorcycle owners watch out for one another. If you’re parked in a lot, be sure to lock your bike and shut and secure the garage door.

Install a Theft Prevention GPS

If possible, put a GPS tracker to add more bike theft protection. If you install a permanent, concealed GPS tracker on your motorcycle, the police can track it down within minutes rather than days, weeks, or not find it at all.

Anti-theft devices for vehicle protection monitoring are becoming more affordable. Furthermore, your insurance provider can offer you a discount on your monthly rate if you install a GPS, which also reduces the over price of the device.

Install a Motorcycle Kill Switch

You should add a kill switch on your bike because it’s really effective. If you already have one, make sure you’re using it rather than your key to turn off your motorcycle. It also helps to use a concealed kill switch to improve the protection of your bike.

The kill switch has the advantage of requiring an additional move to power the motorcycle. The motor won’t operate if you use a kill switch until the key transfers a signal to the bike.

This action disables the kill switch. However, if you only insert the key to turn it off, the kill switch won’t activate.

Put in a Motorcycle Anti Theft Alarm

A motorcycle warning is one of the greatest anti-theft systems for motorcycles. It’ll warn you if anyone is tampering with your bike.

A motorcycle burglary warning is worth installing because it provides the desired results. You can trust it to get your attention and possibly scare off the thief. Alarms are generally helpful because they bring so much attention to the bike.

If a thief plans to quietly slip away with your motorcycle, they’re wrong. Theft alarms are incredible motorcycle theft prevention.

Use Security Cameras

Consider installing surveillance cameras around your house. Make sure your home surveillance camera has crystal clear photos day and night, as well as smart motion detectors and smartphone access. When you aren’t at home, you can still keep track of your bike by monitoring it via your mobile phone from any place.

A video camera isn’t just a deterrent for motorcycle theft, but it also functions as a valuable safety tool. If the worse happens and your bike is stolen, the motorcycle burglary footage taken by your surveillance camera can be very useful in the criminal investigation.

Use a Disc Brake Lock

A disc brake lock is another effective motor vehicle safety mechanism that can be used in combination with—or sometimes without— a fork lock. A disc brake lock, much like a fork lock, provides additional protection.

However, rather than blocking the front wheel from turning, this lock prevents the bike from traveling at all. These locks are cumbersome to use and take up space, but they are effective repellents to motorcycle thieves.

Utilizing Motorcycle Theft Prevention

If you own a bike, motorcycle theft prevention is imperative. Since motorbikes are so vulnerable to theft, you have to take extra security measures to make sure that your property isn’t stolen. Thankfully, there are several methods that you can implement to deter criminals.
