An avalanche slammed a group of Japanese students on a school trip in north Tokyo on Monday, local media reported.
NHK reported that the students were on a mountain-climbing excursion when the avalanche engulfed the Nasu Onsen family ski resort in the Tokyo's Tochigi prefecture. At least six high school students were found with no vital signs and three others were injured, NHK said.
More than 30 other people were injured in the avalanche, according to Japan's Kyodo news agency.
Local authorities said about 70 people, including about 50 students and their teachers from seven high schools, were believed to be on a slope when the avalanche hit, authorities told Kyodo.
