There are cellphones and then there is the Apple iPhone. Launched in the summer of 2007, the iPhone's popularity has been huge. The unit is good-looking and is very comfortable to hold. The iPhone stands out in the crowd, largely because of its innovative interface and attractive display. The bright 3.5 inch display has a 160 ppi resolution and text displays on the screen are very readable. One maverick feature is the multi-touch interface, rather than buttons found on other cellphones.
The only physical buttons you'll find on an iPhone are the on / off switch, volume control, ring switch and a Home button. There is no stylus, so your fingers do the work by tapping, pinching and flicking the interface. And, believe it or not, when the iPhone is on you can not see any fingerprint marks! The iPhone has a sturdy glass face which is very scratch resistant. Sensors detect when you are placing the iPhone to your ear and automatically switches off the screen so that you do not accidentally press screen buttons.
The iPhone's cellphone features include call merging, caller ID, call holding and even allows for conferencing. One small feature that is great is, if a call comes in while you are listening to music, the playing music will fade out when the call is answered and then fade back in after the call is completed. The iPhone's Safari web browser is more than adequate for surfing the web and, unlike most cellphones, displays the actual webpage as opposed to a simplified page.
One useful feature here is that webpages can be viewed either in landscape or portrait modes. One can even zoom in using finger movements on the screen. Like its iPod cousin, the iPhone has outstanding music features. The music library is neatly divided into alphabetically labeled sections as well as categories such as artists, albums, songs and compilations.
