Keep Your Eye on the Target and Obstacles Fade Away

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eye off the target.”

— Henry Ford

What does this famous quote mean to you? When you set your sights on something, do you get it? Do you send that tractor beam of light toward your target and keep your blinders on until you get there?

That’s how Henry Ford created the automobile. He wouldn’t take “no” for an answer because he saw it in his mind. That’s where he set his sights – on that vision that he created in his mind. That’s where he focused his tractor beam until he made it real. And that’s all it takes!

What is your tractor beam set on? How do you set your tractor beam on anything, anyway? You may be thinking, “Sure, I can imagine it, but what else do I have to do? Imagining doesn’t just make it happen.” But that’s where you’d be a little bit off base with your thinking. It’s in your imagination where your idea begins.

Imagine you planted a watermelon seed and, whenever you thought about it, you could just taste the flavor of that juicy watermelon that you were growing all by yourself. You knew that you couldn’t just plant it and walk away, so you watered it every day. You fertilized it when necessary and loved it every day. And you continued to imagine what it would taste like, look like and feel like. And you were excited about those feelings. You enjoyed the process of caring for that seed, and then the sprout, and then the baby plant and all the way until it was ripe and ready to eat. And, ohhhhh, how delicious, how absolutely heavenly was that flavor.

What happened in that example was that you put a tractor beam on that seed and coaxed the watermelon out of it with your constant attention and imagination.

Your thoughts are just like that watermelon seed. If there is one particular thought that tickles your fancy and you really would like to do something with it, set your sights and turn on the tractor beam. Imagine you are shining a spot light on that thought and the spot light is coming from inside of you!

Inevitably you’ll be tested by outside circumstances and naysayers, but as soon as you cut the power of that beam, it loses its connection to that thought and the thought just fades away.

That doesn’t mean you have to focus 24/7 on that one thought. But what you do have to do is give it energy and believe that you can make it real. Set your daily schedule to allow yourself 10-15 minutes three times a day to sit quietly and think about that thought. Watch it grow in your mind. Feel what it feels like. Enjoy the process. After awhile – depending on how devoted you are to growing your idea – things will start to happen in your life that seem like coincidences. But actually, they are circumstances that you drew to yourself by keeping that tractor beam on full blast for 10-15 minutes three times a day. Of course you’ll need to take action as your thought becomes more solid. And you’ll be delighted as everything begins to fall into place and you enjoy the process of watching your creation come to life.

Try it and watch what happens.

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eye off the target.”

Try this affirmation to help you along: “I honor my creative thoughts and allow myself the solitude to help them grow.”

Here’s to making the time for quiet moments to help your dreams come true.
