Valentines Day presents a fantastic opportunity to teach your children about the nature of love and how to express that love. One important way that children learn is by observing the adults around them. You can use that instinctual behavior to teach them a lesson that can benefit them for the rest of their life.

It’s an unfortunate fact that much of what children learn today comes from television. It is estimated that school age children watch as much as 27 hours of TV a week. Preschoolers often watch even more. The TV, computer and video games have become the electronic babysitters of the 21st century.

So the question is, do you really want your children learning about life from the TV?

One good way to change that is by showing your children how a successful relationship really works. Learning that one thing will give your child a foundation that they can build on into adulthood.

How can that be done you ask? Use opportunities like Valentines Day to show them how a healthy loving relationship works. They will see the commercials on TV about the chocolates, jewels, fancy dinners and flowers. Then they will look to you t see how you as a parent handle the day.

You can show them that there is more to loving than just buying something. You can show it by involving them in the special ways that you and your spouse show your love for each other. You can let them see the way that you do things not because they are something that you want to do but rather because they are for the person that you love.

Express your love both verbally and in action and your children will learn that the true joy a satisfying, loving relationship can create can be a pert of their life too!
