Valentine’s Day usually means spending time with your special someone with dinner, gifts, hugs and kisses. Chocolate is usually involved in the deal too. But this Valentine’s Day why not mix it up a bit. I’m going to give you a workout you can try, that you and your sweetie can do at home this Valentine’s Day.
As a bootcamp trainer I am more than familiar with group training. Sometimes in bootcamp we train as a group, sometimes as individuals, and sometimes we partner up. There is a lot of things you can do with partner training, such as:
1. No equipment needed (your partner is the equipment)
2. FUN!!
3. Social support and accountability
4. Creates competitive atmosphere for better results
5. Gives you a ton of variety with your exercise
This partner training might as well be called animal or wild kingdom training, because some of the noises you hear from bootcamp members sound just like wild hoards of animals. But it is all in good fun, and it really brings people to rise to the occasion and push one another.
All kidding aside, Valentine’s Day is one of the most important holidays of the year (now the kidding is over). It’s time for the workout and to make it a little more intimate than the usual bootcamp workout.
Valentine’s Day Workout for couples:
Partner style training
The workout will be 20 minutes long, and you will actually need a towel for some of the exercises (sorry, I lied). You will perform each station for 30-seconds and then rest for 30-seconds. You will then rest for 60-seconds and repeat that sequence 4 times for a total of 20 minutes.
Exercise #1- Towel Rows. Each partner will give their own resistance to the towel as the other one rows into their sternum.
Exercise #2- Towel tug-of-war. One partner will pull on the towel while the other tries to remain in the same position. At the :15 mark switch roles.
Exercise #3- Partner sit-ups. Hook your legs together and perform sit-ups (give each other a kiss each time you reach the top)
Exercise #4- Partner wheelbarrow race. You become a wheelbarrow for :15 then switch to the other partner.
If you don’t have a Valentine go ask someone quickly. If you do give it a try. Do something different with your sweetie this Valentine’s Day!
