Adhd Testing – 3 Steps To Make Sure Your Child Gets The Best Possible Diagnosis

Let us say that you have a suspicion that your child may have to do some ADHD testing. Maybe you have noticed a few strange things which have been ongoing now for six months or more. Maybe there are reports coming from his teacher of problems of behavior and concentration during class. You may have noticed that there is a lot of constant motion at home as well and your child never seems to be able to finish his homework. Better to have it checked out.

Given that it is estimated that only about 5% of ADHD kids actually graduate from university compared to the average of 28% for the rest of the population, you are keenly aware that the ADHD child may have some real challenges to face.

That does not mean, he or she will be a misfit as ADHD kids are talented, creative and very funny in their own way and can excel in some areas. He or she will also be in good company given that Einstein, Mozart, Da Vinci and Magic Johnston have all displayed some of the ADHD symptoms.!

How do I go about ADHD testing?

Step 1. Make sure your doctor does a complete examination of your child before jumping to any conclusions. These should establish that hearing and vision are in order. Then there should be questions to eliminate other conditions which mimic ADHD. There are fifty of them! Some of the main ones are thyroid problems, allergies, sleep problems, depression and anxiety.

Step 2. Avoid a rushed diagnosis when ADHD testing. This is a complicated condition so getting an accurate diagnosis can save you hours of worry and expense. The diagnosis should involve teachers, specialists and the filling in of various questionnaires. This is all going to take time. There are various scales used such as the Connors scale. All these are necessary to eliminate any doubt as there is no clinical way to diagnose this condition, unfortunately. We are dealing with a neurological disorder and that is not easy to diagnose. But if we assess all the medical, psychological, behavioral and academic information and there is no other explanation, then the child will be diagnosed as having ADHD.

Step 3. Avoid at all costs falling into the trap of going to a paediatrician and coming out of his office after fifteen minutes later with a prescription for an ADHD drug, more likely an amphetamine, in your sticky little hand. ADHD tests can never be that rapid!

Another mistake is getting a quick diagnosis from his teacher. There are some teachers who actually insist that children are put on psychostimulants, straightaway. Anything for a quiet life! They do not know or care about ADHD tests but there are teachers who are sensitive and caring, as well.

If, having been through all the ADHD testing, your child is diagnosed with ADHD, the next step is to seek out treatment which will help him, rather than turn him into a zombie. That means getting wised up on medication options. Why not start by visiting my site below.
