The Talented Jimmy Connors, Former King of the Tennis Court

Jimmy Connors quiz questions are an important part of any recap of the history of tennis, as he remains one of the most successful players to ever professionally play the sport. One of the facts in Jimmy Connors trivia that shows just how great this tennis star was, is the fact that he is one of only five athletes that has won a Grand Slam singles tournament on Grass, Hard, and Clay courts, as he was a master of all surfaces the game is played on. He even managed to win the US Open alone, on all three different types of surfaces.

A Jimmy Connors quiz point that is perhaps the most often talked about statistic of his career is the number of weeks that he was ranked as the number one tennis player in the world. He became the first ranked player in 1974 and remained in that spot for 160 weeks. Although he would totally be the first ranked player for 268 weeks, the 160 consecutive weeks was the longest period a person had held that position, and stayed as the record until 2007, when Roger Federer would achieve the new record of most consecutive weeks at number one.

Jimmy Connors trivia includes interesting facts about his games against other famous players of his time. Connors would defeat Bjorn Borg at the US Open, and also lose to him at the 1977 Wimbledon tournament, and it would be Borg who was able to break the consecutive streak of Connors atop the tennis ratings. He also had a much celebrated win against John McEnroe, then the best player in the world, in Wimbledon in 1982.

Connors was also both the face of tennis racket evolution, and of the past of racket technology. During the early part of his career he became one of the faces of the Wilson T2000 racket which was made of steel instead of wood as most of its predecessors has been. He would play with this racket for decades, and what had once been innovation became traditionalism, and while others moved on to other types of rackets he continued to play with the Wilson, even reverting to it once after changing to a newer type of racket construction. It took until 1987 before he would switch full time to a graphite construction racket, which was 19 years after the introduction of the T2000 racket which he helped introduce to the world.
