2011 Super Bowl: Early Betting in Vegas Favors Steelers

The Green Bay Packers have opened as a 2-point favorite over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV odds that will be played on Sunday, February 6th at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Online sportsbooks and Vegas Super Bowl odds are holding strong to a 2.5-point line across the board with the over/under betting total slightly fluctuating between 44.5 and 45. SBG Global is the only sportsbooks that is currently offering the Packers -2 in early Super Bowl betting odds. Green Bay is also listed as a -130 favorite on the money line vs Pittsburgh as a +110 underdog. Offshore and Vegas sportsbooks are reporting that early betting action has the underdog “Steeler Nation” favored by 54% to lift the Vince Lombardi trophy.

The Packers won the championship of the National Football Conference in impressive fashion as they scored three consecutive road payouts over division champions to be listed as betting favorites in Super Bowl XLV odds. They opened in the wild card round with a 21-16 win at Philadelphia Eagles, the champions of the NFC East. That was followed up with a highly impressive 48-21 win at the Atlanta Falcons, the champions of the NFC South. The Packers then went on to win the NFC Championship Game at Chicago against the North Division champion Bears 21-14. This is Green Bay’s first Super Bowl appearance since the 1997 season in which they suffered a shocking upset loss to John Elway and the Denver Broncos.

Pittsburgh was the number two seed in the American Football Conference and scored home NFL betting payouts of 31-24 over the Baltimore Ravens and 24-19 over the New York Jets in the AFC Championship Game but are still listed as underdogs in Super Bowl XLV odds. This is the 8th Super Bowl appearance for Pittsburgh and third in the past 6 seasons as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger goes for his third championship ring. The Steelers were the winners of the Super Bowl two years ago when they defeated the Arizona Cardinals on a Roethlisberger touchdown pass in the final seconds although the Cardinals were the team to cover the odds in the 27-23 loss as 7-point underdogs.
