Should I Get A MacBook Air?

[ad_1]

The MacBook Air is the rare computer that lives up to its name. Nearly as light as air, this machine is thin and incredibly light. Recently released new models include an amazing tapered form and sleek unibody enclosure. However, aside from these pretty statistics, you may want to ask yourself if the MacBook Air is for you. You’ll know the answer once you decide your opinion about portability, ease of use, and power.

Do you want a computer that’s almost like an iPad because it is so light and thin? Then you might want an Air. Weighing in at well under three pounds, the new machines come in 11 inch and 13 inch versions. That means you can go tiny or extra tiny with your air (but don’t worry, both contain a full sized keyboard). If you like the idea of a computer that’s light (and prefer that to necessary compromises on other features), then the machine is just about as good as it gets. Portability is aided by 5 hours of active battery life and 30 days of battery life on standby. This computer is built to go with you.

You also want to consider usability when you’re deciding about a MacBook Air. The computer manages to do a lot without making many compromises. As mentioned before, you’ll have a full sized keyboard. You’ll also get an amazing multitouch trackpad and iSight camera. However, there are a couple of compromises. If you use CDs or DVDs regularly, you’ll need an external drive or remote install to use them. Also, you can only access the internet wirelessly unless you have an adaptor. Fortunately, the MacBook Air has USB ports that make these functions optional. However, that may affect your usability on the device and should factor into your judgment.

Finally, you should estimate how much power you need. With a maximum hard drive space of 256 GB, the solid state hard drive has amazing performance, but it may not be large enough for music packrats or movie collecting junkies. In addition, a more traditional laptop like the powerbook will pack more punch. However, the Air is powerful enough for most users to be satisfied.

Like any purchase, you have a range of choices when you’re choosing a laptop. But be assured that, in this case, they’re all good ones. Whatever your needs may be, the MacBook Air provides a tempting alternative to laptops as usual.
