Productivity on the run is more feasible than ever before after the introduction of the Honeycomb Android operating system and duel-core tablet processing. High-powered Android phones and tablets are empowering mobile users to catch up on work even though they happen to be out of the office.

Microsoft Word represents one of the first productivity products people think of when it is time to create or edit a document. Many Android users will want to know where they can find a copy of Word to put on their Android tablet or phone.

Microsoft’s failure to meet the demand created by the rapidly-growing Android and iPad mobile market has created a void that is being filed by several Android developers.

Makers of Android rich-text word productivity applications include Quickoffice, OfficeSuite by Mobile Systems, Smart Office by Picsel and Documents to Go by Dataviz.

These word processing applications are designed to allow users to view, create, edit and share Microsoft Word documents.

Mobile users are not limited to working with just Word documents. These productivity applications also allow the creation of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft PowerPoint files.

All of these applications come with a price tag. Prices range from $9.72 for Picsel’s Smart Office application to $16.99 for QuickOffice Pro HD.

One application has even been optimized for Android tablet users. QuickOffice Pro HD was developed to take advantage of the Android Honeycomb tablet’s wide screen. This contrasts with the more limited, and less expensive, QuickOffice Pro version that is designed for use with a smaller sized Android phone screen.

You have the option to take a couple of these products out for a test drive prior to paying out your cash.

Documents to Go, by DataViz, can be downloaded from the market in a “viewer” only mode. Documents to Go Viewer allows users to view Microsoft Word documents but does not allow new documents to be created or existing documents to be edited. Android users can also download a 30 day trial version of Mobile System’s OfficeSuite application.

To date, Microsoft may not care too much about writing iOS and Android software. However, these word processing applications are doing an excellent job of filling the Microsoft void.
