How to Composite Images

It’s no wonder that photo editing is so popular. We’re highly visual, meaning that almost 93% of people will decide on a product based on a photograph. To that end, composite images can be an eye-catching phenomenon, something out of this world that attracts our undivided attention.

Whether it’s for personal use or business, image editing isn’t easy. If you want to edit like a pro, you might need a few of these tips.

Read on, and we’ll look at what composite images are and the editing tricks you can use to achieve a great final result.

What Does Composite Image Mean?

Before doing any editing, we should look at the exact definition of a composite image. In its bare essence, it’s a combination of multiple photographs into one. When done well, you aren’t able to tell the edit has been made, even in extreme examples.

You could have several reasons for doing this, and the simpler they are, the easier the editing process will be. For example, if you only want to change the background, you can use a background remover app to get you started.

How To Begin Photo Editing

The first thing you are going to need is some photo editing software. This software will vary on your device of choice. One of the most well-known options for Windows is the Adobe tools, such as Photoshop.

We’ll use Photoshop as our go-to tool for now since it has all the capabilities required to create a composite image.

The first thing you’ll want to learn about is the use of layers. By putting your original image onto a layer of its own, you can remove the elements you don’t like. You can do this with the select or lasso tool, but if you’ve used a background removal app, then it’s already done.

Next up, you want to create new layers for each new item that you wish to introduce to the original image.

Once you’ve assembled all the different elements for your final collage, we start using the mask tool. Masks give you the ability to blend these assembled images, making them appear as if they are all one photograph.

One difficulty you may run into is managing lighting levels and color saturation. Photoshop has tools to address this as well, as you can manipulate the color levels of each layer individually.

An Album of Perfect Composite Images

Now that you’ve learned a few of these editing techniques, we expect that you’ll be filling up an album of composite images in no time! Just remember one thing, photo editing can get addictive, and the only limit is your creativity!

It could grow your social media following or generate new sales for your business. Whatever the case may be, engaging people with interesting photographs is always a hit.
