Making a Few Adjustments: How to Change Your Google Chrome Content Settings

Google chrome is by far one of the most popular internet browsers to date. Even better, it’s quite customizable when it comes to the settings. Everyone has different preferences and Chrome ensures that it caters to a variety of users.

If you want to adjust your browsing experience, this article is for you. Take a look at the tips below to learn how to adjust your Google Chrome content settings.

  1. Sign Into Google Without Logging Into Chrome

Chrome automatically logs you in when you sign into a Google service such as Gmail. Sometimes, this is great because you can switch between your computer or phone without having to put your information into each device.

However, if you don’t want to identify yourself on a particular Chrome browser, you have the option to prevent it from automatically signing you in. Go under the Settings tab, click the Advanced button, and scroll to Allow Chrome Sign In. Using the toggle switch, turn the option to Off. When you do that, you can sign in and out of your Google accounts without logging in to Chrome and linking your browser to that particular account.

  1. Stop Web Apps From Operating in the Background

It’s common for most websites to keep running behind the scenes, even when you shut Chrome down. Background operation helps to keep files synced to the internet and notify you of certain activities. But if you want to prevent this, go to the Settings tab, click Advanced, and put the choose the Off option under Continue Running Background Apps.

  1. Change Google Chrome Pop up Settings

Pop-ups can be really annoying. Thankfully, there’s a quick fix for it. On your Chrome browser, go to the Settings tab. Scroll down to Privacy and Security, then click Site Settings. Under that tab, click Pop-ups and Redirects. Under that section, choose to put the settings on Allowed or Blocked.

Speaking of pop-ups, you also have to option to change how the website looks. Click the following link to learn how to enable dark mode for google chrome.

  1. Adjust Google Chrome Security Settings

Safety and privacy are super important while browsing the internet. To make sure your security is up to par, click the Settings tab in your Chrome browser. Under Privacy and Security, select the settings that you want to turn off. Under this tab, you can also control how Chrome uses the content and permissions for a website. To make the adjustments for it, click Site Settings.

Plus, if you want to delete your browsing activity such as your cookies, passwords, or history, click Clear Browsing Data under the Privacy and Security tab. Also, to make your browsing more safe and protected, click Security under the Privacy and Security section, and choose the option that fits you best.

  1. Prevent Websites From Tracking You

Like most internet browsers, Google Chrome allows websites to store cookies on your operating system. Cookies keep files of who you are and your preferences. They are used to help remember your location or keep you signed in.

Cookies are also used by advertisers to keep up with your browsing history so that they can send you specific ads. This can get quite annoying, so Chrome allows users to make adjustments.

In your browser, go to Settings, then click the Advanced section. From there click Cookies and Site Data. Under this tab, you have the option to block cookies or just block third party cookies. If you really despise tracking, you can choose the option of Clear Cookies and Site Data When You Quit Chrome tab. That way, the browser will reset itself every time you close it, and every website will start from new when you log back in.

This option is located under Privacy and Security, click Site Settings, and it’s listed under Cookies and Site Data.

  1. Turn Off Notifications

Nowadays, many websites request access from your microphone, webcam, and location so they can send you notifications. Many times, the website asks for permission and you can make adjustments on a site-by-site basis.

However, you can also adjust this type of activity on your Chrome browser as well. Under the Settings tab, click Advanced and then select Site Settings.

Pick a permission to view which websites have access, then change the permissions for each one. If you prefer, you can block all of the requests together. Under this section, you can also control which websites can show notifications on your desktop.

  1. Control the Information That Google Get From You

Google uses certain data to spot bugs in Chrome and do other analysis. But if you don’t want them getting too much information, you can control it under the Sync and Google Services page beneath the Settings tab. By doing this, you can control how much diagnostic data gets sent over to Google.

Below this section, switch the toggle button to Off to limit how much info Chrome sends back to the office. By limiting this information, you can prevent the analysis of the websites you visit from going to Google. You can also turn off the feedback on how you use your browser.
