The MacBook Pro and iMac are 2 different models of the Macintosh computers that are produced by Apple. There have been 4 different versions of iMac desktop computers distinctly, each identified by their processor type, while the line of Mac Pro laptops has remained consistent fairly throughout its life. It does not matter which iMac you own, Apple has actually made it a lot easier to transfer the data between the Macs. The things you would need for transfering the data are:

· USB flash drive or the external hard drive

· FireWire cable

Transferring The Data

· Create one new folder. You can do so by pressing 'Command + Shift + N' on desktop of iMac and then name it as 'Transfer'. Drag all data that you wish to migrate into the 'Transfer' folder.

· Highlight this 'Transfer' folder and click it just once. Select the 'Get Info …' under file menu or you can click the 'Command + I.' Window that would open is going to indicate how much amount of data this folder contains. step so make a note of this.

· Double-click on hard drive of Mac Pro. The amount of hard drive space which is free is indicated at bottom of this window. There is another method for the determination of free space; you can either press the 'Command + I' or highlight the hard drive of the laptop and select the 'Get Info …' under file. 'Transfer' folder, you can continue to the next step. If not, you would either have to remove some of the files from 'Transfer' folder on iMac's desktop or delete some of the files from the Mac Pro.

· Reboot your Mac Pro while you hold down 'T' key. It would boot in the 'FireWire' mode and your screen would display FireWire icon. Then attach an end of the FireWire cable to FireWire jack on iMac and other end to FireWire jack on MacBook Pro.

· Look out for the hard drive of Macbook Pro, indicated by FireWire icon, for mounting on iMac's desktop. Just in case, if it does not appear, then select 'Preferences' under the 'Finder' and make sure that the 'External disks' option is checked off from under 'General' tab.

· Drag your 'Transfer' folder from iMac's desktop to hard drive of MacBook Pro. Once this file is finished copying, eject hard drive of MacBook Pro by clicking the 'Eject' icon in the shape of a triangle or dragging it to the trash.

· By pressing power key, power down MacBook Pro and connect FireWire cable. Reboot it now and you would see the folder of 'Transfer' on the hard drive. At such a point you can now move the files to any point you wan on your MacBook Pro.

· There is another method for transferring the files is to use an external hard drive or a flash drive. Plug drive into iMac, copy the folder of 'Transfer' to it and then disconnect it when it is finished copying. Attach it to MacBook Pro and also copy files on to your laptop.
