Line the bottom lash line FIRST, for a most perfect wing!

This is Hector Espinal, guys, the magically talented Global Makeup Artist for FENTY Beauty by Rihanna. He recently did our beauty squad’s makeup and increased our quality of life by 3000%.

Instagram: @artbyhector

Hector showed Dani, Patrice, and me how to create three different Fenty looks, each one requiring a different skill level. Whether your makeup skills are beginner, basic, or bomb, we got you!

Taylor Miller / BuzzFeed

If you're a beginner who never gave a damn about makeup until Rihanna dropped Fenty, try out this look. Hector gave us very helpful tips and thorough steps, start to finish.

Zoë Burnett / BuzzFeed

For Daniella, Hector made it all about the skin. The look is very soft and natural, and is great for every day.

Apply primer at the center of your face, and work your way outward. The formula doesn’t have any silicone in it either, so it’s really nice and creamy. Hector says, “It’s a Snap filter in a bottle!”

Get the Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Primer from Sephora for $32.

Apply an even layer of foundation all over your face with beauty sponge. Start with a little so it doesn’t look cakey, and build if you need more.

If you're not that experienced with concealer, just dab a little more foundation than normal under your eyes. Use the Precision Makeup Sponge's flat edge at the top for a more accurate application under the eyes and lips. Daniela wears shade 150 for light skin with neutral undertones.

Get the Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (available in 40 shades) from Sephora for $34, and the Precision Sponge for $16.

For a chiseled look, contour higher than usual. And in the words of Hector, “Contour is like Spanx. It should be on, but people shouldn’t see it.”

Contouring is completely optional, but if you wanna give it a go, Hector first highlighted Dani in the Match Stix Matte Skinstick shade French Vanilla. Your face isn't all one color and the light hits it at different angles, so the purpose of contour highlight is to basically accentuate those points of your face that are naturally lighter: forehead, under eyes, bridge of nose. In case you're thinking, “But I thought highlighter was the pretty shimmery stuff.”, you're absolutely correct and we're gonna get to that! But there's also contour highlight, which should be about one to two shades lighter than your skin tone, and it adds dimension to your face.

He followed up with the shade Truffle, which also happens to be Rihanna's dark contour shade. To achieve a more chiseled look, Hector applied it onto her face a little higher than one might normally place the darker contour color. If you're reading this like, “But how TF do I do this?”, apply product about two shades darker than your skin tone to your temples, cheek bones, jaw line, and the outline of the bridge of your nose, and then blend, blend, BLEND! If you're not a blend pro, dab your makeup sponge until the product is blended in; DON'T rub.

Get the Match Stix Matte Skinstick from Sephora for $25. Available in 20 shades.

Fun fact: The sticks are multi-use, and can be used however you want, from highlight to concealer to lip color. Truffle is one of the most universal shades. Even if you have a deep skin tone, you can use it as highlight.

Control oil by blotting just the center of your face, and keep the perimeter a little more dewey. The contrast in texture makes for a more natural finish.

Apply highlighter to the high points of your face, like your temples and cheekbones. You can also use highlighter as eye shimmer!

For this step, Hector used the Shimmer Match Stix (not to be confused with the Matte Match Stix that he used for contour) in the shade Starstruck. Apply it to the highpoints of your face, like your cheekbone, and you can even pop it on the center of your eyelids and cupid's bow for some extra glow. This particular formula doesn't dry easily, so it's very forgiving if you mess up. If you apply too much or to the wrong spot, just wipe it off and try again. You can also blend it out with your fingers.

Available in 10 shades. Get the Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick from Sephora for $25.

Fun Fact: You can put a little highlight on your ears if your hair is pulled back. “They should have a moment, too!” —Hector Espinal

To finish any natural look, seal the deal with mascara and gloss!

Get the Fenty Gloss Bomb from Sephora for $18.

This is probably where most beauty lovers fall. You do a pretty good job at your own makeup, but nobody's booking you for shoots. You already have the basics down, so you should be able to swing this look!

Zoë Burnett / BuzzFeed

For Patrice, Hector wanted to focus on the lips. Switch up your usual routine and try this soft glam beat.

Taylor Miller / Zoë Burnett / BuzzFeed

So each look basically starts with the same steps, which are primer and foundation. If you have dry skin, Hector says a good tip is to mix both products, two pumps of primer and two pumps of foundation, and apply them together.

Patrice wears the Fenty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 370 for tan to deep skin with warm undertones.

After he contoured Patrice, Hector used the same shade to give her eyes more depth and shape. For this little hack, just apply your dark contour shade to the crease of your eye.

You can apply the contour to your eyes with a brush or your fingers. Just make sure you BLEND! Patrice's contour shade is Espresso in the Fenty Match Stix Matte Skinstick.

Taylor Miller / Zoë Burnett / BuzzFeed

After you’ve contoured, apply a shimmery highlighter to your cheekbones of course. If you don’t feel like dealing with eyeshadow, you can apply the same highlighter to the the center, or ball, of your eye for shimmer.

Hector used a cheek-hugging makeup brush to apply the Fenty Hu$tla Baby highlighter to Patrice's cheekbones, and then he applied it to the center of her eye. You can use your fingers, too, though as long as you're good at blending.

Get the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo for $34 (available in six compacts, 10 shades. Four of the compacts have duo shades), and the Cheek-Hugging Highlight Brush for $32 from Sephora.

But if you do want some eyeshadow, apply a shade to your entire lid using your finger. Using your finger instead of a brush avoids messy fallout.

Hector used Jupiter Sand, a beautiful neutral, from the Fenty Galaxy Eyeshadow Palette since the look was more about the lips. He took the same color and wrapped it around her lower lash line. If you're keeping the eye simple and only using one color for most of your lid, apply with your fingers. For one, there's no cleaning brushes afterwards. But also, you have more control and little to no fallout.

Get the Fenty Galaxy Palette from Sephora for $39.

End strong by layering on mascara and your fave bold lipstick, and top the lipstick with gloss in a similar shade to saturate the color even more. If there are any harsh lipstick lines around your mouth, Hector says a gloss helps to blend them out.

Hector gave us a few really good tips for a standout lip. Use the edge of your lipstick as a liner to outline your lips, and then fill them in. For more pigment, layer on more lipstick. And to really pack it on, apply a coat or two of gloss in a similar color on top. The gloss will also help to blend the outline a little so it's not too harsh. For Patrice he used Fenty Starlit Hyper-Glitz Lipstick in Gravity, layered with the Cosmic Gloss Lip Glitter in Plutonic Relationship.

Get the Fenty Starlit Hyper-Glitz Lipstick for $19 and Cosmic Gloss Lip Glitter for $19 from Sephora. Each product is available in four shades.

So this look is a little more involved and requires more precision than the other two. But you're a makeup master, so it should be a breeze! We won't bother explaining Makeup 101, but there are a few tricks and tips you may find useful!

Zoë Burnett / BuzzFeed

For Essence (I know, it’s weird writing abt me in third person), Hector brought the DRAMA with contour, highlight, and a sharp AF winged eye.

Taylor Miller / Zoë Burnett / BuzzFeed

To really show off the different dimensions of your face, apply your foundation shade to the center of your face, and a shade darker to the perimeter since the perimeter picks up light differently and appears darker.

So to really get your pro game on after applying primer, Hector suggests using two different foundations, one shade apart. Apply the shade closest to your skin tone to the center, and one shade darker to the perimeter. Be sure to blend so that it all looks seamless. For Essence, he applied the Fenty foundation in 420 to the center and the shade 430 to the perimeter.

When the focus of any look is the eyes, as in this case, you want to brighten the under-eye, nose, and chin with concealer. This really draws in the attention!

Since the focal point of this particular look is the eye, Hector says you really want to draw people's attention to it. Highlighting those central points—like under-eye, nose, and chin—directs the focus to the eye. He used the Fenty Match Stix Matte Skinstick in Suede, which can be used as a highlight contour and concealer.

After brightening the center of your face, contour (duh!), and then REALLY pack on the eyeshadow. To intensify the pigment, wet your eyeshadow brush before picking up the shades and applying.

For a pigment punch, wet your brush first. This is a great trick if you don't have an eyeshadow primer and really want to intensify the color! For Essence's eye, Hector applied the Espresso Matchstix, which is also her dark contour shade, with his finger all over her lid as the base, and then he wet his brush for a pigment punch and mixed Jupiter Sand and Milkyway from the Galaxy palette to pop in the tear duct.

Then, because it's all about the details, Hector applied Lightyear and Xtra Terrestrial to the lower lash line for even more shimmer. And because you can never be too extra, he finished off with Killawatt Highlighter in Trophy Wife, also in the tear duct! #IssaMoment.

Get the Fenty Galaxy Palette for $39 and the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Trophy Wife for $34 from Sephora.

For a dramatic and precise wing, Hector says to start with the the lower lash line first and use it as a guide.

This tip is really a game-changer for a dramatic, razor-sharp wing! Hector suggests lining from the inner corner down through the lower lash line to start your wing. The lower lash line naturally curves in the direction you want your wing—UP!—so starting there gives you more control. When you start at the top lash line, you run the risk of your wing drooping since the end of your top lash line curves down to a point.

For a most dramatic effect, start at the lower lash line and carry the line up to approximately the same point on both sides, and then build it out from there as high as you want it! Once you set how high you want your wing, draw a line from the point, down to your top lash line and fill it in. The wing will be more precise, and you can clean up any imperfection with a damp cotton swab.

You can also do different colored liners on the top and bottom. Hector applied Fenty's Eclipse 2-In-1 Glitter Release Eyeliner in Alien Bae on the lower lash line and Nepturnt on the top.

Get the Fenty Eclipse 2-In-1 Glitter Release Eyeliner from Sephora for $20. Available in three shades.

Fun Fact: When you smudge the Fenty Eclipse 2-In-1 Glitter Release Eyeliner with the Galaxy 2-Way Eyeshadow Brush, the liner gets super glittery!

Taylor Miller / Zoë Burnett / BuzzFeed

Sweep the same highlighter you popped in your tear ducts across your cheekbones.

Because this look is all about stirring up drama, Hector used the Trophy Wife highlighter for Essence's cheekbones. The shimmer gold around the winged eye really draws even more attention to it.

Get the Fenty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter from Sephora for $34. Available in six compacts, 10 shades (four of the compacts have duo shades).

Taylor Miller / Zoë Burnett / BuzzFeed

To complete the look, finish off with mascara and lipstick. Your lip can be as bold or as muted as you want since the eye is dramatic but still subtle in color. To keep the focus on the wings, though, Hector suggests a more muted shade.

He finished off the look with Fenty Starlit Hyper-Glitz Lipstick in Sci-Fly, a “glimmering garnet.” The lip added a pop of color, since the eye was pretty dark, but not too much color that the focus shifted from the wing.
